Don't die yet! Write some more funny stuff. You can die once there's enough material for a book, plus extra for magazine pieces, etc.

If you take exception to dying just to become famous as a writer, I'll discuss the benefits with you sometime on-air.

Then I'll off you. Don't know how I'll do it via ISDN, but surely Brad can help.

Your white brother,

BPJAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7086361246902345453.post-18777049470534793562008-01-22T16:28:00.000-05:002008-01-22T16:28:00.000-05:00Thanks for reminding me...Like most families, when...Thanks for reminding me...
Like most families, when I and my two brothers were growing up ("getting older" would be more accurate; "growing up" suggests some level of maturing), my parents always had the Brownie at the ready. That way, they never missed the chance to immortalize on film our salient moments. We have boxes and suitcases filled with shots of us taking our first steps, learning to ride bikes, diving into the public pool's deep end, boarding the bus to summer camp,... Any and every milestone, captured forever. There is one particular shot of Jon, my younger brother, which I snatched out of the album before it ever saw the light of day. I am saving it for the right moment to haul out. To this day, I periodically check its hiding place to make sure it is there and not turned to dust. (Note to self: scan it, just in case.) His 50th birthday approaches. I am hopeful that there will be dozens of people celebrating with him - friends, family, co-workers; oooh, maybe his boss!
Jon was perhaps a year and a half old when the picture was taken. He looks happy. Goofy-happy, in fact, bursting with pride. Bursting, anyway, for it is a picture of him buck-naked, sitting on the can, just having proven for the very first time that he understood the concept of toilet-training. Flushed with pride, as it were.
No; wait. I won't bring it out on his 50th. I'll wait for 65 and his retirement party. After all, what better way to mark the occasion, to commend him for a job well done!
That's what brothers are for.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7086361246902345453.post-15450940123689799812008-01-21T21:13:00.000-05:002008-01-21T21:13:00.000-05:00This blog literally hits home: let me share -'caus...This blog literally hits home: let me share -'cause I, too, was the foil for many a sisterly trick!

Yes, beware - the hand that giveth (extra tv time, candy, comic books, and other juvenile treats) can be, without notice, THE HAND THAT TAKETH AWAY.....

IF, you, as younger brother, fail to meet your sister's high and exacting standards for complete control of your life - well, then kiss your kandy GOODBYE.

And so, it's a delicate balance between complete subservience to all sisterly requirements, and the subtle subversion of all that power that is the calling card of any self-respecting younger brother!

Balancing the two is often a delicate and tenuous tightwalk rope walk! In the final analysis, the need for subversion was always trumped by my ten-year old's craving for the perks that my ol;der sister could offer - but at a hefty price: COMPLETE CONTROL.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
